eBay Find of the Day: Sole remaining 1995 Ford Thunderbird SVT prototype

It might not be the very first production Thunderbird ever made, but it is a pretty special T-Bird nonetheless, and it is up for auction, not at Barrett-Jackson, but rather on eBay Motors. Item number 190283235126 is a rare, 1 of 4, 1995 Ford Thunderbird SVT Concept prototype.


The description tells us that the other three were crushed by the Blue Oval, making this the sole survivor. What makes this SVT concept special is the engine. It features a turbocharged 4.8L V8 instead of the supercharged V6 that went into the production Thunderbird SC. Black with a gray leather interior, it appears to have aged well, with nearly 70,000 miles on the clock.


The car has been with one owner for the past ten years and was featured in Makes & Models Magazine in 2005. Unfortunately, it has a few non-stock "upgrades," including a racing fuel cell and a fiberglass hood with an airbrushed bird on the underside. Big dollar cars don't meet reserves at RM's Arizona auction

Across town from Barrett-Jackson at the Bitmore Resort, RM Auctions held its "Automobiles of Arizona" auction highlighted by several multi-million dollar cars including a one-of-five 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport and a past Pebble Beach winner 1937 Bugatti 57SC Atalante Coupe (much like the one that was recently found in a barn).


Unfortunately, neither car saw a bid that met the reserve price, perhaps an indication that current economic conditions are finally catching up with the high-end collector car market. The Grand Sport went unsold with a top bid of $5 million, and the Bugatti failed to meet its reserve with a high bid of $4.4 million. A 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France also went unsold with a top bid of $1.8 million.


One notable car that did find a new owner was the 1954 Dodge Firearrow III Concept with the hammer falling at $800,000 before auction fees. There were plenty of other beautiful cars that did sell, and you can check out the full list at RM's web site.

Original 1965 Lamborghini Miura Turin Salon Chassis found

Originally shown at the 1965 Turin Salon, the Lamborghini Miura show car chassis has been in storage since 1978 on the island nation of Cyprus in the Mediterranean. Uncovered just a month ago sitting in the collection of Marios Kritikos, Cyprus' original Lamborghini dealer, the car has been imported to the U.S. and is undergoing complete restoration to show-car condition.


The car sat, essentially untouched, until December 2008, 43 years since it was displayed in Turin. When it was discovered - complete with the original invoice for the chassis - a pair of Miura specialist collectors helped to get the car to its new owner, and it is currently in the process of being restored to its original condition at the facilities of the Bobileff Motorcar Company in San Diego, California.



The 1965 Turin Salon Miura was Lamborghini's first transverse, mid-mounted V12 engine and is considered by some to be the forefather of all road-going supercars.

Morgan SuperSports Junior 3-wheeler pedal car revealed

In 2007 innovative BlueTEC diesel technology was launched for the first time in a passenger car in Europe - in the E 300 BlueTEC. This European introduction was preceded by the launch of the E320 BlueTEC in the U.S. in October 2006. With BlueTEC, Mercedes-Benz has succeeded in greatly reducing emissions and ensuring compliance with the EU5 emission standard. Innovative BlueTEC technology has thus made the diesel engine one of the cleanest and most efficient drive systems in the world.


A total of 1,270,000 sedans from the current E-Class series have been delivered worldwide since the model was launched in 2002, while 230,000 customers have opted for the station wagon version. The “Germany - Land of Ideas” initiative of the German federal government and German industry presented Mercedes-Benz with an award in January 2008 for innovative research in connection with the brand’s introduction of BlueTEC technology to Europe. In addition, the E 320 BlueTEC was chosen “2007 World Green Car” by automotive journalists from 22 countries in April of last year. The Concorso D’Eleganza Villa D’Este, in the lake Como, in Italy, is sponsored by BMW since it was revived, in 1999, and the German brand always finds space to show amazing concept cars there. Sadly, none of them has made it into production so far. Some of the stars have been the Mille Miglia Concept and the Rolls-Royce 101EX. In this year’s edition of the event, BMW will pay homage to one of its most important cars, the M1, which celebrates 30 years in 2008. But the Bavarian company did not intend only to cherish its creation, it also wanted to present a modern interpretation of that supercar. Meet the M1 Homage concept. With it, the tradition on Villa D’Este’s concepts may be about to change.It is not only the concept’s striking looks that may give it a chance to be produced, even if in a small scale. The new car may also have come to life in a proper moment for BMW to give its production a serious thought. Mercedes-Benz has realized it may be a good idea to offer supercars and, when SLR’s production ceases, in 2009, it already has plans to revive the Gullwing, currently being tested under a Viper-like body. Even Audi has given it a try and is not complaining about R8 sales and brand-image benefits. Hence, why would BMW stay out of such a market?It is obvious no one likes to bet if there is no chance of winning, so BMW will probably wait to see public’s reaction on the M1 to consider production. Expect it to be present in the most important autoshows in the next few years, such as Paris and Frankfurt. GM Motorama concepts resurrected for Pebble Beach Concours

GM's Motorama of 1955 was a traveling showcase of what the General then thought were the "Cars of the Future." Fantastic concepts were created for the cross-country show, but when the spotlights shut off at the last venue, GM ordered all the vehicles to be destroyed for safety and legal reasons. This year at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, two of these cars that should have been lost forever will be shown -- both resurrected from scraps found at the junkyard where GM dumped them years ago.

The two cars -- a LaSalle Roadster and a Biscayne -- were supposed to be thoroughly destroyed under GM supervision. Instead, both were left in mangled, but restorable, condition. The Biscayne's chassis was crushed, but the original body panels were saved by the junkyard's owner. The LaSalle Roadster escaped the crusher, but was instead cut into many pieces. Amazingly, after more than 50 years, the remaining pieces were found by Chicago collector Joe Bortz and are currently being painstakingly restored into complete automobiles.

In addition to Boritz' cars, General Motors will also be bringing a number of past concepts, while other private collectors will be bringing GM concepts they own as well. The 2008 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance will mark the first time that the Biscayne has been seen in public since the last Motorama show in 1955, and the vehicle was widely regarded to have drawn the largest crowds during the Motorama circuit. While the Biscayne is not yet fully restored, it will offer show goers the chance to see the vehicle in the midst of its reconstruction.

Though neither the Biscayne nor LaSalle Roadster entered production, many features of the two cars were seen in later GM vehicles. Most notably, the Biscayne lends many of its styling features to the Corvair, while plenty of 1956-57 Corvette features were gleaned from the LaSalle Roadster.

1930 Cadillac V16 Roadster

The Danbury Mint has strategically used this downtime to launch what some collectors who have seen the project up close consider to be the tour de force of Danbury's 23 years of die-cast replication.

After what was reportedly a two-year gestation period--longer than normal in the die-cast world--Danbury has created a spectacular 1:12 scale 1930 Cadillac V16 Roadster. It is made up of more than 1300 die-cast, rolled-steel, rubber and vinyl parts, weighing in at 14 pounds and spanning 18.5 inches.

From the gorgeous two-tone metallic green paint to the mechanical dazzle of the hallowed V16 engine to the cornucopia of functional features, this finely detailed replica does everything the real car does except burn gasoline.
